Legacy of Life presents: An Opportunity for Donor and Recipient Connection
“I know that not everyone would want to meet recipients of their loved one's organs, but I had decided early in the process that I would like to meet them if the opportunity was available.”- A donor family member
Nova Scotia introduced a new legislation in 2021 for Organ and Tissue Donation that in addition to deemed consent for donation also made it possible to enable direct contact between donor families and organ recipients. Twelve months after the transplant has occurred, both parties can make a request to Legacy of Life in Nova Scotia if they would like to meet. If certain criteria are met, both parties can meet with support and preparation by the Legacy of Life team.
Legacy of Life in Nova Scotia is proud to present this video about the first official direct contact in Atlantic Canada . This is the story of a donor family member and a recipient and captures the journey brought them to meet for the first time.
