2024 Canadian Transplant Games are a wrap!
Ottawa was host to the 10th Canadian Transplant Games August 3-9, 2024.
This national sporting event is the ultimate showcase of the power of organ donation. Held every two years unless a pandemic gets in the way, the Canadian Transplant Games is the premiere athletic celebration of sport for the transplant community from across the country. The International Olympic Committee accredits some of the events. The youngest competitor at the Ottawa Games - held from August 3 to 8 - was 10 years old, and the oldest was 76.
More than 4,000 people in Canada are currently waiting for their gift of life. Some of them will die while waiting.
Choose to leave well so others can live well. Register to be an organ and tissue donor.
People should also share their wishes with their families.
The important thing to remember is you are far more likely to need an organ than be able to donate. When you see what these recipients have been able to do with their second chances, it just affirms the importance of organ donation.
Canadian Blood Services was honoured to be a title sponsor of the 2024 Canadian Transplant Games.
In the public education and awareness space, we work with the provincial organ donation organizations on school-based education programs like the Orgamites and national campaign platforms like donateyourorgans.ca
Canadian Blood Services and the Canadian Transplant Association share many key objectives to improve transplant patient outcomes and to raise awareness about the powerful impact of organ donation. The patient and donor family voice is integral to system improvement… Working together – with partners like the CTA - we strengthen the system and together we’ll build a trusted and caring culture of donation in Canada and improve equity and access to transplant for all Canadians.
About the Canadian Transplant Association
The Canadian Transplant Association’s vision is to improve the health outcomes of transplant recipients by promoting the message of post-transplant healthy living.
A registered charity, the CTA was launched by a group of individuals passionate about showcasing the benefits of organ donation. Almost 35 years later, they have volunteers across the country raising awareness and creating community for transplant recipients, donor families, living donors, and their families.
We're honoured to be able to be support the Games through title sponsorship and facilitating volunteers at the sporting events and throughout the Games.
