The Donated Commercial - The gift that keeps on giving

The Donated Commercial: Ad agency DonerNorth created an ad made of 48 donated commercials

An inspired idea delivers in more ways than one

In 2022, creative agency DonerNorth embarked on an imaginative and generous journey to donate a commercial made up of donated commercials. This gifted ad/PSA - a big hit on Spotify - has inspired many Canadians to think about donation and take two minutes register their decision about organ donation with their provincial organ donation registry… and a few more minutes to talk about that decision with their loved ones.

A winner at the 2023 Clio Awards, this organ donation spot gave old commercials a second life while reminding us all of powerful impact donation can have on the lives of others.

Terry O’Reilly digs into The Donated Commercial on the Feb 8 episode of Under the Influence on CBC Radio - Putting the Awe in Audio

“This ad agency came up with a very simple, yet intricate radio message to encourage organ donation. Titled, "The Donated Commercial," it was created in a highly unusual way. It was assembled using 48 donated parts from other commercials.

It was a very smart ad – demonstrating that something could be brought to life with donated parts. It was launched on Spotify during National Organ & Tissue Donation Week.

The commercial's click-through-rate was 87 per cent higher than the average ad on Spotify. Meaning 87 per cent more people than usual clicked-through to the organ donation website….”
