Meet Joban: UBC MD Candidate and registered organ donor

Joban Bal is a registered organ and tissue donor.

This is Joban. He’s a charismatic academic whose vocabulary is impressive and wealth of knowledge seems endless. He’s the kind of guy who would probably make for a pretty good Jeopardy player, and most definitely make for an interesting and engaging dinner guest. His love for learning is infectious and the topics he can talk about intelligently are vast—historical figures, business operations and strategies, innovative new technologies, preventative health, and…sports, too, of course.

Joban chooses to leave well so others can live well.

Joban is an athlete, a social butterfly, and a scholar. He lives well and he intends to leave well, too.

Joban cares immensely about leaving a legacy of positivity. “Donating blood while I’m alive and being registered to give my organs when my last breath leaves is an extension of my legacy,” he says. “Such that it may continue in the most precious form: Life.”

Joban sets the example for others.

Joban volunteered to share his story with other Canadians as part of the Leave Well campaign. A few months later, his face and his commitment to organ donation was wrapped around buses in Vancouver, BC. Joban made a point to chase down a bus, take a photo, and share his pride online.
